Dear Friends,

The turn out and support for last years Memorial Cup Bay was unbelievable!!!!!!! We set a new bay pen record for the biggest number of entries for a single day with 215 on Saturday, not counting the bay-offs. We didn’t have a single catch out or dog injured, this is unheard of! By Sunday evening, over 302 runs got scored.

Friday night’s Welcome Ribeye Steak Dinner, compliments of Fort Bayou Ranch, was enjoyed by over 150 people at the campfire. Saturday was a beautiful day, cool in the shade and a little warm in the sun, with a pleasant breeze blowing. The aroma of BBQ hug pleasantly in the air, thanks to Mr Roy Buxton and his smiling team. People from AL, FL, GA, SC, PA, VA, TN, MS, AR, MO, LA, and TX, visited from campsite to campsite renewing old friendships and making new ones. The atmosphere was laid back and relaxing but the fireworks were soon to begin!!!

The Donna Matvejs puppy bay was a shoot out with 38 entries with some of the best puppies in the country. When the dust cleared, Ronnie Mallette and Charlie Canizaro were left in bay-off battle for first, with Ronnie’s Catahoula pup, Try Me, being the quickest on the draw.

The day continued on with excitement and plenty of suspense and good-natured competition! There were bay-offs in every event, with some of the top trainers and breeders being in attendance. Mr. Orville Roberts from LA., was recognized and honored with a beautiful plaque for his 60 years of accomplishments and dedication to his fellow houndsmen and the sport of hog hunting. The plaque was presented by fellow legends of the sport, Mr. Amos Mann of Two Diamond Catahoulas, Wills Point, TX., and Mr. David Alexander, of Corinth, MS.

Also in attendance were "Old Dogs" Tommy Laman, 3L Kennel, Sour Lake, TX., Francesca Buck of Buck’s Catahoulas, TX, Bobby & Cathy Long, RCL Kennel, GA, Mark Banister, Hickory Crossing Field Trails, Hartwell, GA, Randy Barnes, GA, Joy & Lanier Shaw, GA, Connie Dees, GA, Gary Hutchins, GA, Louis & Judy Smith, Blue Sky Catahoulas, TX, Donene Nugent, TX, Sherry Bando, Campawhile Catahoulas, MS, the Brian & Russell Necaise clan from the Kiln, MS, Bubby Holden, LA, Charlie Fontenot, TX, Danny & Kathy Meadows, FL, Reg & Trey Skains, Backwoods Adventures, LA, Otis & Gayla Weems, Weem’s Catahoulas, Plain Dealing, LA, Ricky Walker, LA, Jake Loicano, TX, Mona Mann Bilbo, MS, Brian Hunter, GA, Autry Boyd, TX, Charles & Dalton Bland, MS, David Blanc, LA, Glenn & Ginger Dugas, LA.

Some of the new and coming up "Young Guns" that competed for one of the 6 Championship Cups were Hoyt Ferguson, MO, Beau Parkerson, MS, Shane O’Bannon, LA, Justin "Bean" Hilburn, LA, Charlie Canizaro, LA, Wayne Dublechain, LA, Jim Whipple, MS, Jacob Turner, MS, Brian Amonet, MS, Woo Adams, MS, Shane Seals, LA, Keith & Travis Huggins, LA, David Harrington, LA, Ben Moffit, AR, Lynn Falvey, MS, Jason Phorton, MS.

The Lady "Gunslingers" made a strong showing with Phyllis Alexander, MS, Hope Seals, LA, Emily Huggins, LA, Lynn Jessmon, Facahatchee Catahoulas, FL, Anna Harris, LA, Barbara Waltman, TX, Kelly Boyd, TX, Dianne O’Bannon, MS, Tasha Moffit, AR, Tory Earl, J Cross Kennel, MS, Donna Whipple, MS. The FB Cup Bay "Ladies MVP" Emily Necaise, competed in the Wild Boar Poker, won the Ladies Pig Chase and ran her dogs.

With all the great Dog Men & Women on hand, strong qualified judges were easy to find and everyone took turns in "The Stand" to ensure fair judging for the large turnout.

The Treeing Competition was held in a gorgeous Pecan Tree on Mississippi bluegrass, the song of Hounds & Curs at bay permeated through the grounds. Brandon Ealy, MS took home the First with his Walker Hound. The Poticaw Boys provided entertainment and bluegrass music under the shade tree on Sunday afternoon.

The BBQ cooking contest was won "hands down" by Virgil Walters, MS. Andrew Ladner from the Kiln, MS was the last man standing in this show’s Wild Boar Poker Tournament.
